5 robust rules for a good recruiting process

Recruitment can be a lengthy process. This is why it is beneficial to invest extra resources into the process, so you and your employees receive the best match right from the start. Considering this, recruitment should be considered as the top priority for your business.

Good recruitment has become more challenging in the past year, and competition to attract the right talents has become harder. According to the 2023 recruitment analysis from Konsulenthuset Ballisager, 69 percent of all terminations by companies that are not downsizing are because the employee's personality or professionalism does not meet expectations. Director for HR services in Ballisager, Ene Charlotte Krog further underlines this point saying:

-Right now, many businesses have neither applicants nor enough candidates applying with the right qualifications. Typically, the business ends up with either hiring these candidates, even though they require more qualifications, or sharing the work with the existing employees.

The wrong hire can have dire consequences for the business and not just for the bottom line. Employee well-being risks being compromised; therefore, repeated wrong recruitments can have far-reaching consequences.

“In a recruitment process, as a company you are judged for what you do, but also in what you do not do. We know from our candidate analysis that one of the main reasons as to why employees leave businesses before their first year is because they experience a job that did not meet their expectations. That can be expensive and a shame for both parties” - explains Ene Charlotte Krog.

5 good tips: This is how you attract and hire the best talents which fit your company

So, what do you need to do for your business to stand is the best on the market, when it comes to recruiting talent?

  1. Have a more all-rounded look at your employees' strengths
As an employer, you have expectations for what your new potential employee should be able to do beforehand. However, suppose you dare to open these expectations up for the job advertisement. In that case, more candidates will be able to see themselves in the job, and most candidates are looking to learn something new and develop themselves. This will shorten the recruitment process, replacing the rest of this time for Onboarding and teaching a new, dedicated team member.

  2. (Re) think the jobs main tasks
Use the recruitment process to rethink if your copy-pasted job tasks should be retouched. Does it include tasks that another employee would like to overtake? Assignments that another employee would like to do? Use this situation as a time to strengthen your current employee's well-being whilst finding the right candidate for you.

  3. Center yourself around a system
Even though a single recruitment depends on the position and candidate types, it is still clear that the process will not be smooth without a system in place. You will increase your chances of remembering all the details and processes if you streamline the process and have transparency. With one system you can make the recruitment process easier and clearer for your candidates, who will see you as an organised (potential) employer.

  4. AI is on its way – it is time to join the crowd
Even though Ballisager’s recruitment analysis only represented 3 percent of Danish businesses, many are considering using AI for screening processes, and there is a large scope for technology to change the game regarding recruitment. So long as there is a balance of technology with a touch of humanity, AI can help with, for example, creating a job and similar tasks.

  5. Clear communication before and after
Remember that the strategic, long-term work of attracting the right talent precedes active recruitment. It is a business's employer branding: Tailoring work that makes your business stand out as the best on the market. After recruitment, when you have chosen your candidate, transparency in communication is vital. It sends signals to employees and helps with your company’s image. Bad (or even worse, no) explanation or feedback gives your candidates no motivation to look for a job at your company again.
